From The 2014 Project: In Beards We Trust
Steve has been a professional photographer for over 20 years and has photographed charity events and exhibitions, model portfolios and catwalk fashion, commissioned portraits and weddings, commercial projects, and some of the most beautiful locations in Australia.
After a work accident left him with an invisible but painful and permanent disability, Steve found himself unable to work full time and had to adjust his entire life. He became more interested in fine art as well as design, and partners his wife in these endeavours. These choices have allowed some flexibility in working hours and conditions and allowed him to remain somewhat productive during this time.
Unfortunately, the long term effects of this incident and other factors led to a recurrence of his clinical depression in 2013. Steve is now well on his way to recovery and is concentrating on his creative photography as part of this process.
If you are depressed or just feeling unable to cope, please reach out. Speak to a family member or a friend, see your doctor, or call an anonymous health line. Depression is real, serious, and life changing. There is help – there is hope.
